The Year is Ending: Are We Still Stuck in the Same Place?

As the new year quickly approaches, it’s time to take a long, honest look in the mirror. Where are we? Are we thriving, or are we stuck—perhaps even worse off than last year? These are hard questions, but they’re necessary because the truth is, many of us have allowed life’s distractions, fear, and procrastination to keep us from living the life we deserve.

The Silent Killers: Procrastination and "The Job"

How many of us had big dreams for this year—starting a business, improving our health, finally chasing that passion project—only to let procrastination or the endless grind of a job stop us? We told ourselves we’d start tomorrow, next week, or next month. But guess what? Tomorrow came and went, and our dreams stayed shelved.

That job you’re clinging to? It may pay the bills, but is it feeding your soul? Are you growing, or are you just surviving? Too often, we let the security of a paycheck keep us from pursuing what truly matters. We give all our energy to work, leaving nothing for ourselves. Is this how we want to live? Is this what we want our legacy to be?

The Pain of Putting Ourselves Last

How many times have you put everyone else’s needs above your own? As parents, partners, friends, and caregivers, it’s in our nature to give. But somewhere along the way, we lose ourselves. We let our dreams take a backseat to ensure everyone else is okay.

Here’s the hard truth: You can’t pour from an empty cup. You can’t uplift others if you’re running on fumes. Just like the flight attendant reminds us—if the plane loses cabin pressure, you must put on your oxygen mask first before helping others. So, ask yourself: Have you been putting on everyone else’s mask while suffocating silently?

Same Resolutions, Same Results?

Let’s be real—how many of us are gearing up to make the same New Year’s resolutions we’ve made for the last three, five, or even ten years? “This year, I’ll finally lose the weight, leave the toxic job, start the business, save money, or spend more time with family.” But as January fades into February, those resolutions fade too.

The cycle repeats itself every year, and with every missed goal, our confidence erodes a little more. The question is: Are we really going to let another year slip by? Or are we ready to finally break the cycle?

Why It’s Time to Put Yourself First

This isn’t about being selfish—it’s about survival, growth, and becoming the best version of yourself. When you take care of you, you position yourself to better take care of others. Imagine the life you could lead if you prioritized your health, dreams, and passions. Imagine the example you could set for your loved ones by showing them what’s possible when you dare to choose yourself.

Putting yourself first means:

  • Saying no to things that drain your energy.

  • Conquering procrastination by taking small steps daily.

  • Facing your fears and pushing through discomfort to reach your goals.

  • Building a life that reflects your values, not someone else’s expectations.

What Will Be Different This Year?

The new year isn’t a magic reset button—it’s an opportunity. An opportunity to rewrite your story and take ownership of your life. This year, let’s stop hoping for change and start creating it.

Here’s how you can break the cycle:

  1. Reflect Honestly: Identify where you’ve been holding yourself back. What habits, fears, or excuses have kept you stuck?

  2. Set Realistic Goals: Don’t overwhelm yourself with a dozen resolutions. Focus on 1-3 meaningful goals and commit to them.

  3. Take Action Daily: Even small steps add up. What can you do today to move closer to your dreams?

  4. Prioritize You: Schedule time for self-care, personal growth, and the things that light your soul on fire.

  5. Find Accountability: Share your goals with someone who will cheer you on and hold you accountable.

A Heartfelt Reminder

Life is short, and time waits for no one. Don’t let another year go by wondering what could have been. You are worthy of the life you dream of. You are capable of breaking free from fear, procrastination, and self-doubt. The journey isn’t easy, but it’s worth it—because you’re worth it.

This year, let’s stop making resolutions and start making changes. Let’s step into our power, prioritize our dreams, and build a life that inspires not just us but those we love. It’s your time. Are you ready to claim it?
